How to use JPG to WebP Converter
WebP usually lands at roughly a quarter to a third of the size of the equivalent JPG, with no visible quality loss on most photographs. That is why nearly every performance guide and every CDN now asks for WebP. This converter runs the same local re-encode as our image compressor, with the output format set to WebP, so the file is converted on your device and downloaded straight away.
- 1Drop in a JPG, PNG or WebP file.
- 2Leave the format on WebP and adjust quality if you want a smaller file.
- 3Press Compress to run the conversion locally.
- 4Download the resulting .webp file.

Frequently asked questions
How much smaller is WebP than JPG?
For a typical photograph, WebP at the same perceived quality is about 25–35% of the JPG size, and the gap widens for images with text or flat graphics. Some PNGs with transparency shrink by more than 90%. The exact saving depends on the image, so the result bar shows the real numbers for your file rather than an estimate.
Will my WebP open everywhere?
In every current browser, on every current phone, and on all major CDNs and social platforms. The one exception worth knowing about is very old software — Windows XP-era photo editors, some email clients from the 2010s and a handful of print-shopping systems still expect JPG. If a specific system rejects the file, export the same image as JPG instead.
Does converting to WebP lose the transparency of my PNG?
No — WebP supports an alpha channel, so transparent PNGs stay transparent. What changes is the compression method: WebP uses lossy compression by default, so pick PNG output if you need a lossless master copy. For logos and icons that must stay pixel-perfect, keep the original PNG as well.
Do I need to upload my files anywhere?
Never. The conversion happens in the browser using the Canvas API, and the download is generated locally as a blob. There is no server in the loop, which also means there is no file-size limit and no queue.
